The “name witheld” is one of the UK’s leading newspapers featuring news, entertainment and sport coverage. It regularly sells more than one million copies and has a readership of over 3.5million. The paper runs various entertainment promotions throughout the year and for one such promotion, The “name witheld”  approached WhyCommunicate? to achieve its sales objectives.

Brief/objectives

To create awareness of a free double sided Justin Bieber poster included with the “name withheld” . Targeting both fans and fans family members in order to drive purchases of the paper. WhyCommunicate? had to work to a tight deadline of two days from brief to implementation and with a limited budget .

Strategy

WhyCommunicate? met the challenge using a combination of social media expertise, flexibility and creativity. We delivered a Facebook advertising campaign as the most appropriate mechanism to deliver a response in a very short time scale. Our in-house Facebook advertising tool allowed us to quickly create more than 300 ad variations using targeted text and images to take full advantage of Facebook’s demographic segmentation options. The campaign targeted specific age groups separately and allowed for time before publication options to further drive interest. Within 24 hours of calling WhyCommunicate? The “name witheld” had the campaign it needed and three days later, it had achieved the results it had hoped for.

Results

The campaign surpassed The “name withheld” expectations with more than 1,000 additional people ’liking’ and following the “name withheld”  Facebook page – an increase of almost 50%. The campaign also delivered a significant click through rate due to the accuracy of targeting and copy testing. Sales data is confidential.
