- Activity Feed: This is a relatively new feature, where by you can view the recent activity of the people you follow such as any favorites, follows or retweets, plus it introduces you to new users that are carrying out similar activity to who you follow.
- Avatar: Can be an image used on Twitter, which appears by every tweet you send, and on your profile. Also a term for graphical representation on blogs.
- Bio: A short paragraph explaining you as an individual or the company/business the profile represents. Should include keywords to attract the correct niche.
- Direct message: This is the private message function on Twitter, which is a more private way of @replying. Also called a DM.
- Favourite: Favouriting a tweet means that it will be added to a Favourites tab on your profile, for other users to view, or for you to refer to later. This is also a button function which appears under every tweet in your Twitter Feed.
- Follow Friday: A weekly activity on Twitter incorporating the hash tag #FF, follow friday means mentioning your favourite tweeters, and recommending others to follow them. This is often just a list of twitter handles with the hash tag. It is advisable to thank those that recommend you.
- Hash tag: This is a way of grouping your Tweets based on their subject matter. Commonly this feature is used during major events (such as the #RoyalWedding) so you can then perform a search and see all relating tweets together. It’s a way of adding your tweet to the conversation.
- Lists: A Twitter user can create a list of other users, grouped into a category such as interests or profession. Other users can then choose to follow this list, and thereby save time searching for specific users within a certain theme.
- @mention: A user includes your twitter handle in their tweet, to mention and include you in their tweet. This will then appear in your mentions tab for you to respond to. Also called an @reply
- Retweet: This is a button function which appears under every tweet in your Twitter Feed. It allows you to copy a tweet to your profile, and share it with your followers. It’s original sender still appears.
- Tools (Twitter): Twitter tools are websites or applications that allow users to organise and maximise their Twitter activity. Examples include: TwitterFeed, Tweetdeck or Buffer.
- Trends: Trends appear in the right hand side bar under ‘Who to Follow’ and display the most used hash tags and phrases, from the world of Twitter.
- Twitter Feed or Timeline: This is where all of the people you follow’s tweet’s will appear throughout the day.
- Twitter Handle: The name of your Twitter account, and the name that appears before every tweet you send.
